Fear of Money

August 7th, 2010 Filed under: Personal Finance — Finance Author

The fear of money, this has to be one of the most interesting phobias for the modern age; the official name for this phobia is Chrematophobia, as all good things this is derived from the ancient Greek language from the words for money and fear.

Well you will not get very far in the world if you have such a fear, the fear of an abstract concept of money, which it self can be manifest in many forms ranging from physical coins and notes, to the more virtual elements such as electronics transfers and credit cards, this would severely restrict participation in the normal operations of day to day life and your interaction in all social occasions.

Think also of any effect on the act of altruism that many of us undertake the majority of which is done by the donation of money to worthy charities and organisations, again these avenues are restricted to these individuals

I occasionally do some freelance work as writer for many magazines as other media, one of the reasons I looked into the area of the fear of money, follows on from a commission I had when working on a article for a new web site that has recently been launched. It tracks the wealth of individuals and provides some feed back as to where they fit into the ranks of the rich.

Now if you have no fear of money, you should have no hesitation in filling in a few simple question and then proceed to view the results, but having looked at some of the raw data extracted the system, you can be only believe the Chrematophobia does have some basis, in the on the online world. Coupled also with the fear of the perceived loss of privacy most people just peruse the site and leave, with out ever interacting in any level. I can only deduce that at some subconscious level we all have some mild for of Chrematophobia acting on us without us really being aware of its influence.

If you want to see the web site you for yourselves, you can find it at yourrichlist.com it provides you information on your position in world of the rich, and an indication of the peers on your group. Maybe by actively participating on the survey on the site, you over come the subconscious effect of Chrematophobia that maybe effecting us all.
