All I gotta say is I wish I would have had a budget and stuck to it! I am such a techie that I needed something like mint.com to make it work for me. i tried before, but just did not have the discipline. A budge would have rocked my world much earlier.

The idea of giving money to those in need or to your faith instead of buying gadgets and useless stuff may fall on deaf ears.

Especially for those who are already in debt (you mentioned the average cc debt of $9.000), or just in need of fast emergency cash to meet their daily needs.

It's however a principle worth promoting! There are those who will make a difference, in their own financial affairs as well as in other's.

I definitely use them as much as I used to. Electronic banking is easier, safer and less costly. But I do miss the personal contact with the local bank.

I think checks are still in use for smaller mom and pop style businesses and non-profits. We take checks for our photography business. Mainly, we work with the person so the risk is lower (we know where we can find them) and the cost of running a credit card can be to high. Once we get rolling more, we will definitely add that. I still do love writing a check to my church, the action therein is much more purposeful. I do see that checks could go by the wayside but will hang on for the next 30-40 years.

In the book, "Your Wealth is hidden in the Fragments of your Life", available for free at http://www.HushDoNotTell.com, it explains that this is not easy to do, but there is some help in finding extra money by cutting out something called survival crutches and by reducing living expenses. There is a chapter on each of these in the book. Secondarily, the "engine" is ponderously slow in the beginning, but moves faster after building momentum over time. I discovered this approach 31 years ago. It works, though not with extreme ease, and there are several others who teach a similar method.

Susan,

I would absolutely love to put up a link to your site and I have. I like your idea of having writers submit content for approval to be posted on your site. I have read a few of the posts and the content you are providing is valuable.

Thank you for offering to put a link to my site up as well. I agree that it is a great way to increasing readership.
